Fritz Wernli is the inventor of the Choco Petit Beurres biscuits: a piece of bread, a row of chocolate – and the Swiss children‘s afternoon snack was ready. This idea gave rise in 1964 to the most popular biscuit to date in Switzerland.

After dark, milk and white, ruby is the most unusual chocolate discovery for 80 years. This gift of nature surprises and fascinates with an entirely new colour and taste experience - produced from the ruby cocoa bean.

Natural Swiss chocolate

By pure chance, the cocoa experts at Barry Callebaut discovered a chocolate with an exceptional ruby-red colour and fruity taste.  They needed more than 10 years to unlock this secret of nature and to perfect the recipe.They discovered that the ruby cocoa bean is the key to the typical intensive fruity taste, the fresh acidic notes and the sparkling colour of ruby chocolate.

Ruby cocoa beans grow in traditional cocoa producing areas such as Brazil, Ecuador and the Ivory Coast. Their typical raw materials ensure the unique ruby-red colour and the taste.  They are processed in Switzerland – in a very natural way without the addition of colourings or fruit flavourings.

The ruby chocolate used by Wernli contains a cocoa content of at least 42%.

Support of cocoa farmers

Barry Callebaut is the partner of the Cocoa Horizons Foundation that promotes craftsmanship and entrepreneurship among cocoa  farmers. For every Callet™, an amount is paid to the farmer communities in the Ivory Coast and Ghana. The main focus here is on further training measures and financial incentives to encourage the cocoa farmers to improve the quality and the yield of their  harvest – which means they can ultimately improve their living conditions.
